On Saturday, April 13 Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) organized the 2nd Annual Career Conference with Flushing High School to advance our goal of career readiness at the school. More than 110 students and parents from Flushing High School and our partner schools heard from 20 professionals working in an array of fields such as: civil service, information technology, law education, business and finance, engineering, community organizing, government and politics, medicine, journalism and criminal justice. The students and parents were able to meet and speak with professionals in small-group breakout sessions throughout the day.
AAFE helped to establish the College and Career Pathways Center at Flushing High School in October 2012. Working together with the school’s college adviser, staff and administrators, AAFE provides comprehensive student leadership development, college counseling, financial literacy education and family services. AAFE also partnered with Flushing International High School, the Flushing Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) and Lower East Side Preparatory High School for this annual event.
