Last Thursday, March 13, AAFE celebrated its 40th Anniversary and the Year of the Horse with 950 of the organization’s closest supporters, clients, and community residents at Jing Fong Restaurant in Chinatown. During the evening, guests were treated to special performances by AAFE’s Unicorn Dance Team and Vivian Fang Liu. AAFE also presented the Dream of Equality Award to: the Honorable Brad Lander, New York City Councilman, District 39; Jennifer Jones Austin, Executive Director, Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies; Michelle de la Uz, Executive Director, Fifth Avenue Committee; and Bill Chong, Commissioner, Department of Youth and Community Development. In addition to honoring these individuals, AAFE also recognized some of the organization’s founders who fought tirelessly throughout the 1970s and 1980s on behalf of Asian Americans and all those in need.
