AAFE youth volunteers participate in a phone banking event

New Yorkers will take to the ballot box this Election Day — Tuesday November 4, 2014 — faced with choices in several important elections, including races for the United States House of Representatives, New York State Governor and Lieutenant Governor, other State offices such as Comptroller and Attorney General, members of the State Senate and Assembly, and three ballot initiatives.

In a bid to boost turnout, AAFE has mobilized 30 volunteers to phone bank more than 3,000 voters in Manhattan and Queens (including residents of AAFE’s affordable housing developments), to urge them to make it to the polling station on Election Day.

The event marks the climax in a series of events the organization had held to promote political participation. Earlier this year, AAFE staff and youth volunteers took part in a voter registration drive in Flushing, NY. The event was part of National Voter Registration Day, a nationwide campaign to create widespread awareness of voter registration opportunities.

Polls will be open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. For assistance finding your poll site and to preview who is on the ballot, click here.
