Fay Chew Matsuda embodies the story of Chinatown’s growth. A child of immigrants who arrived during the Chinese Exclusion Act and built several local businesses, Fay became a community organizer in the 1970s where she participated in the early demonstrations at Confucius Plaza. Since then, Fay has served her community through leadership positions at Hamilton Madison House Brooklyn Children’s Museum, the Museum for Chinese in America, Chinatown Health Clinic, and Asian American Federation.
