Minerva Chin is a founder and current Board Chair of A Place for Kids (formerly Asian Children’s Underground), 43 year-old after-school and summer program for low-income and immigrant children in Chinatown. Minerva taught at Hamilton-Madison Settlement House and for over 30 years at PS 130 in Chinatown from which she has recently retired. Minerva was elected and served for 12 years as a community representative to Community Development Agency’s (renamed DYCD) Area Policy Board #3 and  Board #2 where she distributed federal block grants to impoverished neighborhoods in Lower Manhattan. As an educator, a child of immigrant parents, and a parent of two sons, Minerva’s goal is to provide educational and enrichment opportunities for immigrant children to realize their bilingualism, bi-culturalism and to discover their own identities in our diverse world.
