On March 29, 2018, Asian Americans for Equality celebrated the accomplishments of the past year and looked ahead to new challenges at our 44th Annual Lunar New Year Banquet.
At the banquet, we saw AAFE’s impact on the individual level and we honored our Dream of Equality Award recipients, including: Scott Stringer, New York City Comptroller; Yuh-Line Niou, New York State Assemblymember; Carlina Rivera, New York City Council Member; and Kirk Goodrich, Vice President and Director of Real Estate Development at Monadnock Development. Whether serving in the public or private sector, these individuals have contributed so much to making New York a more equitable city. We were pleased to recognize their tireless work on behalf of our communities.
AAFE also recognized two inspiring leaders with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Christopher Kui retired last year after 31 years as our executive director. Suki Terada Ports retired after years as a dedicated member of our board of directors. We are grateful to both of them for their unwavering dedication, vision and passion over the course of so many years. AAFE produced a video featuring Kui and Ports, which debuted at the banquet (you can see it here).
We want to thank all of our friends and supporters for celebrating the Year of the Dog with us in Manhattan’s Chinatown. A special thanks goes out to this year’s sponsors, who are listed on the right side of this article. They not only helped make our banquet possible, but have sustained our community development mission through generous financial support year-after-year.
