May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, an opportunity to recognize the many contributions of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

Throughout the month, we at Asian Americans for Equality will be reflecting on our own origins as an activist organization in Manhattan’s Chinatown 44 years ago. It’s in this spirit that we revisit our 2015 documentary focused on AAFE’s history, Beyond Activism: Four Decades of Social Justice.

Filmmaker Peter Hutchison explores the Asian American civil rights movement, from protests against discriminatory hiring practices and police brutality in the 1970s to AAFE’s evolution as a modern-day community development organization.
