From the whole AAFE family, we want to wish you a Happy New Year. Thanks to your support, Asian Americans for Equality made a big impact in our communities during the past year:
community members received one-on-one services from our housing, immigration, youth and workforce development counselors.
community members attended an AAFE workshop to learn about tenant rights, college/career opportunities, employment or social services.
community members received homeownership counseling through our affiliate, AAFE Community Development Fund.
small businesses received loans through our affiliate, Renaissance Economic Development Corporation.
We have been introducing you to some of the people who received help from our programs in the past year.
We met Sara Mencho Lopez (top left photo), who became an American citizen with immigration assistance from our office in Jackson Heights, Queens; Winnie Guo (middle photo), who came to our Flushing Workforce Development Program and is now an AAFE employee; and Yuki Chen (right photo), an honors student at City College who was previously a leader of AAFE’s Flushing Youth Program.
When you make a contribution, you’re ensuring that people like Sara, Winnie and Yuki receive critical AAFE services and have the chance to better their lives.
We have big plans in the coming year.
In 2019, AAFE will:
-Open One Flushing, our dynamic multi-generational project in Flushing, Queens, adding 232 units of affordable housing in the community.
-Debut our new community service center at One Flushing, providing enhanced small business services through Renaissance Economic Development Corporation, as well as expanded social services and senior programs.
-Vigorously organize and advocate with tenant leaders for desperately needed housing reforms in Albany to address New York City’s affordable housing crisis.
-Preserve and build more than 100 units of affordable housing throughout New York City.
Make a contribution today. Your tax-deductible gift before Dec. 31 will help us serve New York’s Asian American community and all of those in need in the year ahead.
