On May 17, John C. Williams, president of the New York Federal Reserve, visited AAFE’s offices in Chinatown for a wide-ranging conversation with AAPI community leaders.
AAFE’s co-executive directors, Thomas Yu and Jennifer Sun, hosted the roundtable discussion on economic development and housing issues. The event coincided with Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Also joining the event were Jessie Lee, managing director of AAFE’s small business affiliate, Renaissance Economic Development Corporation; and representatives from the Asian American Federation, CMP and the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families.
The discussion at AAFE headquarters was part of a day-long listening tour conducted by Williams and key members of his team at the New York Federal Reserve. During the Chinatown session, participants talked about the challenges in creating new affordable housing in New York City, bolstering entrepreneurship within the AAPI community and strengthening workforce development programs.
Follow-up engagement is now in the planning stages to discuss these issues in more detail.
