& Organizing

AAFE believes that housing is a human right. We provide counseling services in English, Chinese and Spanish to ensure that community members have safe and secure affordable homes. We also help organize tenants in Queens to advocate for their rights. Learn more about our eviction prevention, rental assistance, housing navigation and educational programs:

Eviction Prevention: Have you received an eviction notice? Has your landlord threatened to take you to housing court? Have you fallen behind on your rent payments? AAFE will review your case and help you come up with a plan to fight eviction and stabilize your housing situation. If needed, we will connect you with legal services. We can also provide assistance if your heat and/or hot water has been turned off or if you need help securing succession rights.

Rental Assistance: If you can’t pay your rent, we will help you apply for rental assistance from the government, including CityFHEPS and SCRIE/DRIE.

Affordable Housing Applications: Assistance with applications for New York City affordable housing lotteries and applications for apartments through the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA).

Tenant Organizing: One of the best ways to protect your rights as a rent stabilized tenant is to form a tenant association in your building. AAFE provides assistance to tenants looking to create tenant associations or to strengthen them. We also help organize tenants to advocate for housing policy reforms, in collaboration with citywide tenant coalitions.

Know Your Rights Workshops: AAFE staff conduct both in-person and virtual workshops on important topics in English, Chinese and Spanish.

AAFE Resident Services: Dedicated support is available for residents of AAFE-managed buildings.
